Applying phenomenography to the educational research in Vietnam

As a new approach to educational research, phenomenography has reached a surprising degree of popularity in many countries. However, within the research context in Vietnam, there has been a lack of literature relating to this research approach.
This paper overviews phenomenography as a research approach and discuss potential applications of this research approach in the educational context of Vietnam. The author argues that studying this research approach would help to fill the gap in the knowledge of research method and to develop phenomenographic research in future research. Applying phenomenography to educational research would also help to contribute to the way of seeing pedagogical and other practical issues differently. Possible areas of using this research approach in the educational context of Vietnam may include: (1) students’ perceptions of disciplines, (2) students’ perceptions of learning environment influencing their performance, and (3) teachers’ experience of teaching and doing research.
