Abstract
The traditional method of data analysis has not met the requirements of modern grid development. Since 2012, a number of researches into big data in smart grids have been conducted with initial advantageous results. This article analyzes and applies big data in the smart grids including basic concepts, data sources in the power system, characteristics and assessment of big data studies. In addition, the overall architecture and related techniques of big data in the smart grids are demonstrated. The last section of the article presents a model for applying the big data technology in a distribution grid with the diagnosis of equipment operation status, evaluating electricity lines, analyzing customers’ characteristics and behavior as well as forecasting supplementary load.
