Abstract
– Solar chimney is a device for natural ventilation of dwellings based on solar radiation heat. Studies on solar chimneys mainly focus on induced flow rate characteristics and ventilation effectiveness. In this study, we examine effects of the size and location of the ventilation opening of a single house integrated with a vertical solar chimney. Computational Fluid Dynamics method ís used for computing the induced flow rate and flow pattern inside the house according to the size and location of the opening changed. The results show that the flow rate and ventilated volume have close correlation with the size and location of the opening. Ventilation effectiveness increases when the opening is closer to the floor and when there are two air inlets instead of one, for the solar chimney.
