MEASURES FOR DEVELOPiING HOUSEHOLD BUSINESSES IN AREAS OF NORTH HIGHLANDS

Abstract

Household Business (HHB) sector has made a significant contribution to economic growth and poverty reduction in Vietnam. Over the years, HHB experiences a turn in scale, structure, speed that has resulted in a marked improvement in households income. The article makes an evaluation of the status of development of HHB in two provinces of Vietnam’s Northern Highland through a sample of 240 households in Sa Loong, Dak Duc, Bo Y (Ngoc Hoi District, Kon Tum) and Ha Tay, Ia Ka,Hoa Phu (Chu Pah District, Gia Lai). The survey results show that while household income has improved considerably and resulted from various sources, there are some drawbacks such as limited education of households’ heads, inadequate application of technology, lack of capital, irrational plant structure, and underdeveloped infrastructure, etc. Therefore, the local authorities have to deliberate relevant policies toward training sustainably, increasing the credit supplies, and investing efficiently in infrastructure....
