Abstract

Modeling thermal power plants is a challenging but rewarding problem.Common simulation programs based on mathematical equations are highly complicated with numerous related parameters. This study develops two artificial neural networks (ANN) for boilers and steam turbines. The utimate goal is to integrate these two ANN models for the prediction of generating power of power plants using only limited and frequently updated real data from plants. The used neural networks are two-layer feedforward with sigmoid function in the hidden layer, linear function in the output layer, and use Levenberg-Marquardt back-propagation training algorithm. The study has been applied to the first generating unit of O Mon thermal power plant. The results show that the proposed ANNs are highly feasible and applicable to modeling thermal power plants.
