A study of evaluating CO2 emissions reduction by applying the ECO ACTION 21 program at small & medium enterprises in Danang city

Abstract

Since 2004, the Ministry of Environment of Japan has developed a program called “Eco-Action 21” to encourage businesses to promote environment-friendly activities based on the ability to cut down greenhouse gas emissions and to contribute to the fight against climate change. Many Japanese companies have taken part in the program EA21. In 2011 7.240 enterprises received the EA21 certificates. This research aims to introduce EA21 program to small and medium enterprises in the city of Danang to help them implement business activities in parallel with environmental protection by reducing the use of energy, material, fuel etc. and developing their activities into an environment management system. To assess the potential in the reduction of CO2 emissions of enterprises, the author conducted the study in 05 small and medium enterprises in Danang city. Based on the study results, the research team gave the suggestions for building policies and institutions to encourage SMEs to apply EA21 to build Danang into a Eco city in 2020.
