Optimizing distributed generation location and capacity in distribution power network using Genetic algorithm

Abstract

In distributed generation (DG) selection and installation problem in distribution networks to promote operation efficiency, the important issue is that we should identify the optimal DG location and capacity in that grid to reduce power losses and improve voltage quality while operating that grid. However, because distribution networks are characterized by lots of nodes and branches,so we need to apply an algorithm to find a solution to this problem. This paper uses genetic algorithm (GA) to find the optimal location and capacity of DG to reduce power losses and improve voltage quality. The sample system IEEE 69 buses is used as a case study to verify and evaluate the proposed method. The single and multi-goal optimization for that system are also modeled, analyzed and evaluated in the paper.
