Researching on improving capacity of floating dock

Abstract

The plans to improve capacity of floating dock are studied and evaluated. The authors focus on two approaches: the first one is to increase the length of floating dock and the other is to increase the height of floating dock. The first method is to use new concrete pontoons on both ends of the dock. Research result shows its advantages and disadvantages: ensuring good stability of the system \"floating dock - ships\" but reducing the reliability of the system; the technological process is simple and inexpensive. The second method is to concrete 2 new pontoons at the bottom of dock. This method has advantages and disadvantages: significantly reducing the stability of the system \"floating dock - ship\" and reducing the reliability of the system, but the technological process is much more complicated than the fist approach. The assessment and the result show that the first method is more effective with conditions of the enterprise.
