Abstract
Visual pattern recognition has attracted great attention from researchers due to its far-reaching aplications in many different fields such as optical character recognition, action recognition, abnormal behavior detection, etc. In this paper, we concentrate on the recognition of visual pattern including image and video patterns by using set of Hu’s moments to describe the shape of interested objects in an image frame. Initially, we extract the object from the rest of image frame, then we transfer the extracted object into a 7-dimension feature vector, each vector component of which is one of the 7 values of Hu’s moments. Next, we choose artificial neural network and hidden Markov model to recognize image patterns and video patterns, respectively. Experiments on two examples which are plant identification for image data and pathological gait detection for video data show promissing results in terms of total average recognition rate.
