Estimation of bearing capacity of shallow foundation and deep foundation in Hoi An city

Abstract

Hoi An city has attracted a large number of investors in recent years, thus the expansion of area to meet the needs of infrastructure construction is inevitable. In order to support the management, the planning should include studies and research on determining the bearing capacity of various types of foundation. This paper presents and compares the finite element method and limit equilibrium method for calculating the bearing capacity of the shallow foundation, pile foundation and drilled shalt foundation for Hoi An city. The initial results show that the bearing capacity of shallow foundation for Cam Ha area is about of 1000 kPa and pile bearing capacity for CamHa and CamPho area is about 800 to 900 kN;therefore its foundation can be applied. In addition, the bearing capacity of a drilled shaft is about 2500 kN for Cam Ha, Cam Pho, and Minh An areas. Thus, the calculation result of bearing capacity of shallow foundation and pile foundation can be useful for planning and development of the infrastructure in Hoi An.
