Modelling, Simulation and Control of High Speed Synchronous Reluctance Motors

Abstract

In this paper, a new approach to control high speed synchronous reluctance motors is presented. After modeling, identification of parameters and simulation, we propose an optimal control strategy that ensures the production of maximum torque, especially in the field-weakening region. In this method, the current vector is controlled directly. The Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) operation is used in below the base speed (constant torque region) and Maximum Torque Per Weber (MTPW) operation is used in above the base speed (field-weakening region). The drive operates within the voltage and current limits of the motor.
