Modeling and simulation of thermal Turbine – Generators in Matlab enviroment for Subsynchronous Resonance analysis

Abstract

This paper presents the problem of modeling synchronous generators, turbine-generator mechanical system in highly versatile MATLAB software for analysis of Subsynchronous Resonance (SSR) in power systems. The proposed model uses the d–q model to eliminate the dependence of inductances on rotor position. Moreover, the model can be applied for all types of multi-mass turbines.In this paper, the IEEE First Benchmark system for Subsynchronous resonance is simulated for comparison. The oscillations due to SSR are easily observed between turbine-generators and between various turbine shafts. Simulation results also confirm the validity of the proposed model compared to the model developed in EMTP software.
