The influence of the interference between the Vietnamese language and the Jrai language on the reading skill of primary ethnic Jrai pupils

Abstract

This article is aimed at presenting the influence of the interference between the Vietnamese language and the Jrai language on the reading skill of primary ethnic Jrai pupils. By examining the influence of the interference on studying the second language, we have found that the difference in the language types, the characteristics of phonetics, vocabulary and grammar between Vietnamese and Jrai are the causes of the difficulties when primary ethnic Jrai pupils study Vietnamese. The negative transfer of the mother language (Jrai) influences on the learning of the second language (Vietnamese).The errors made by language interference are the causes of these difficulties. In this article, we present the differences in the characteristics of phonetics between Vietnamese and Jrai as the cause of the influence on the reading skill of primary ethnic Jrai pupils.
