Teaching Vietnamese vocabulary and sentence to Jrai ethnic minority pupils - difficulties and challenges

Abstract

This article is aimed at presenting the difficulties and challenges for teachers in teaching vocabulary and sentence lessons to Jrai ethnic minority pupils. We have found that Jrai ethnic minority students are weak at using Vietnamese vocabulary and sentence and at choosing words to put them in sentences when speaking and writing. We have found that the differences in the language type and phonetic, lexical and grammatical characteristics between Vietnamese language and Jrai language have created certain difficulties for Jrai ethnic minority pupils when learning Vietnamese language. They often find it embarrassing to choose words to put them in sentences when they communicate. In our capacity, we will propose some solutions to the difficulties, and improve the quality of vocabulary and sentence teaching to Jrai ethnic minority pupils.
