Some difficulties of Sophomores of English-Danang University of Foreign Language Studies in learning“ENGLISH PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY”

Abstract

There is a common belief that specialized knowledge in learning a foreign language is merely theory and hard to acquire. This really has a considerable effect on the psychology of almost every student, especially sophomores of English of Da Nang University of Foreign Language Studies in their process of approaching English Phonetics and Phonology. Realizing that this is quite a big issue, we conduct this scientific research to investigate into the learning difficulties that these students may encounter. Therefore, we would like to propose a number of ways to tackle the problems effectively. We have done a small survey on 100 sophomores of English about how they study English Phonetics and Phonology. It comes out that many of them are still bad at this subject.To improve the situation, we propose giving them more homework. Hopefully, with the findings and suggestions, the students will gain better academic result in learning this subject.
