Abstract
The impact test based on split Hopkinson pressure bar technique is widely applied over the world to investigate the mechanical properties of materials at relatively high strain rate. In order to develop the model of this testing method in Vietnam, an investigation on finite element analysis is necessary to optimize the arrangement of testing apparatus. In this study, the impact compressive test based on split Hopkinson pressure bar method is modelled and simulated by finite element method. The effect of dimensions of specimen on the stress wave signals is examined. The obtained results show that, better results of stress wave can be seen in the case that the diameter of the specimen is about half of the length of the specimen. Moreover, the ossillation of stress wave signals deceases by using smaller specimen.
