Simulation of loss of excitation protective relay for generators

Abstract

Synchronous generator is an important element in the power system, therefore it is highly required to eliminate the faults in the generator. To ensure this requirement, we need to test performance characteristics of protective relay before putting the generator into operation. On that basis, we will evaluate the accuracy and selectivity of relay. Currently, the U.S. manufacturer SEL has not support tools to simulate the performance characteristics of the functions in SEL 300G relay, particularly that of loss of excitation protection. For this reason, this paper presents the building of a program to simulate loss of excitation protection for generators with two characteristics:Negative Offset Mho và Positive Offset Mho.
