Treatment early outcomes in advanced middle and low rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy by surgical laparoscopic

Abstract
This article evaluated the treatment outcomes for mid and low rectal cancer stages II, III after neoadjuvant therapy by surgical laparoscopic. A descriptive study of 32 patients of middle and low rectal cancer stages II, III, who underwent neoadjuvant therapy and laparoscopic rectal resection at Da Nang Hospital from November 2021 to October 2023. The study results showed the mean age of patients was 60.5 years old. Before neoadjuvant therapy, stage II: 34.4%, stage III: 65.6%. After neoadjuvant therapy, stage I: 25.0%, stage II: 56.3%, stage III: 18.7%. Tumor complete response 6.3%, incomplete response 78.1%. Surgical procedures: low anterior resection (23), Pull-through (4), Miles procedure (5). Post-op complication cases: urinary retention (2), bleeding (1), anastomotic stricture (1). The average hospital stay: 10.4 ± 6.5 days. Thus, laparoscopic surgery in rectal cancer helps less pain and faster recovery. Combining neoadjuvant therapy increases the rate of sphincter preservation, reduces local recurrence rates.
