Studying joining performance of glass to aluminum using nanosecond pulsed laser

Abstract
This study used nanosecond pulsed transfer welding to examine the characteristics and quality of aluminum/glass welds. Weld overlapping factor ranging from 85 to 95% and welding thresholds ranging from 0.15 to 0.8 mJ were used to estimate the weld zone. The weld's maximum tensile strength, which was higher than the strength reported in the most recent investigation, was roughly 26.34 MPa. The distinct effects of external forces on the surfaces of glass and aluminium were illustrated by the differences in weld profiles on the two materials after matching the input processing parameters when applying tangential tensile force. High levels of intermixing and diffusion were shown at the weld interface by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) pictures and EDS (Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) spectrum analysis. In the meantime, the existence of elemental components Al, O, and Si in addition to the anticipated phases demonstrated the perfection of the aluminum/ glass weld using a nanosecond pulsed laser.
