Abstract
Confusion is one of three vocabulary errors of foreign language learners. In the process of Chinese teaching, we discover that Vietnamese learners are usually confused about some Chinese words. These words are: 1) words with the same basic meanings; 2) words with the same morpheme; 3) Chinese words corresponding to Vietnamese poly-semous words; 4) Chinese words corresponding to Sino-Vietnamese words. This confusion is both one way and two way, and occurs in one word with one word, one word with some words, some words with one word, some words with some words. The causes of these errors of Vietnamese learners are the influence of Chinese semantic fields and the influence of Sino-Vietnamese words. On the basis of the characteristics and the causes of Chinese confusable words of Vietnamese learners, we offer some suggestions to teaching and learning Chinese vocabularies.
