Identifying management factors affecting the labour productivity of construction workers in Cambodia

Abstract

Improving productivity in construction has been a major challenge for construction industry because of its impacts on project outcomes. Therefore, more and more firms arei nterested in improving labor productivity of construction workers, hence analysis of factors affecting labor productivity is an instrumental part in this process. This paper focuses on identifying and understanding management factors affecting construction projects in Cambodia. Using questionnaires, data is collected from civil engineers, site managers, consultants of construction projects in Phnom Penh and surrounding provinces. The 70 returned responses are analyzed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The results of EFA show that 2 groups of factors decrease labor productivity and 4 groupsof factors increase job efficiency of labourers. Construction companies in Cambodia could use the results of this paper to improve the productivity of workers, hence minimizing time and cost overrun of construction projects.
