Abstract
This article is designed to study the rhetorical devices in children’s songs in English and Vietnamese. A corpus of 500 rhetorical devices (250 in English and 250 in Vietnamese) is taken from one-hundred 20th- century children’s songs in English and one-hundred 20th- century children’s songs in Vietnamese. In the article, the author describes and compares the data to point out the similarities and differences in rhetorical devices between children’s songs in English and Vietnamese. The results of the study could help teachers and learners understand more about rhetorical devices used in English and Vietnamese children’s songs and how to use them properly and effectively in teaching and learning English and Vietnamese.
