This study elucidates the intention-behavior gap in household source separation of municipal solid waste in urban Da Nang by concurrently measuring intentions (INT), self-reported behavior (SrB), and objective behavior (OB). Descriptive results and correlation analyses reveal a weak correlation between SrB and OB, while the gap between INT/SrB and OB is predominantly positive with substantial magnitude, confirming a significant discrepancy between "wanting to do/saying one does" and "actually doing". Employing a mediation model (PROCESS Model 4), the study identifies infrastructure and information barriers (IIB) as a pivotal mediator amplifying the intention-behavior gap: INT heightens barrier recognition, whereas IIB diminishes actual behavior, yielding a negative indirect effect. In contrast, institutional and policy factors (IP), perceived behavioral control (PBC), and subjective norms (SN) exhibit limited roles. These findings underscore that narrowing the intention-behavior gap necessitates prioritizing interventions in infrastructure and information conditions over solely enhancing intentions.
