Analysis of the way of translation of French passive impersonal sentences into Vietnamese

Abstract

The research aims to study how to translate French passive impersonal sentences into Vietnamese, thus indicating equivalent means of expression of this type of sentence in Vietnamese. The analysis was carried out based on 140 translations of impersonal passive sentences carried out by 4^th -year students of the French Faculty of the University of Danang- University of Foreign Language Studies. The results show that impersonal passive sentences in French can be expressed in many other equivalent forms in Vietnamese, not necessarily passive but retaining the content to be expressed. The analysis also shows the translation forms that are commonly used to translate these types of sentences into Vietnamese. Understanding equivalent forms of expression and how to translate impersonal passive sentences will help improve the quality of learning French in general and translation in particular.
