Impact of sea level rise on the saltwater intrusion of soil structures in Quangnam province

Abstract

The coastal area of Quang Nam has a coastline of 125km, which is an area greatly affected by rising sea levels. Rising sea levels have been causing negative impacts on the geological environment of Quang Nam coastal areas, including saltwater intrusion into the soil structures. Saltwater intrusion makes soil corrosive to concrete and metal structures, changes physical properties and reduces the bearing capacity of soil structures. Research results show, Rising sea levels increase saltwater intrusion areas, according to the scenario RCP4.5, the area of soil structures affected by saltwater intrusion over the years is as follows: in 2030, it will be 90,82 km²; in 2050, it will be 93,89 km²; the scenario RCP8.5, in 2030, it will be 93,37 km²; in 2050, it will be 96,56 km² and the salinity boundary moves deeply into the soil structures in the downstream area of the river.
