Nghiên cứu này xác định tỉ lệ và các yếu tố liên quan đến thực hành nuôi con hoàn toàn bằng sữa mẹ (NCHTBSM) trong thời gian nằm viện sau sinh. Bộ câu hỏi được thiết kế dạng tự điền để hỏi hồi cứu lại các sự kiện trong thời gian nằm viện sau sinh của 170 bà mẹ. Kết quả cho thấy, 100% bà mẹ cho trẻ bú mẹ trong thời gian nằm viện ngay sau sinh, trong đó 51,5% bú sữa mẹ hoàn toàn. Các yếu tố liên quan ảnh hưởng “tích cực” đến NCHTBSM trong thời gian nằm viện sau sinh bao gồm nơi cư trú của bà mẹ ở quận, nơi sinh con tại bệnh viện trung ương/ tỉnh/ thành phố và Trung tâm y tế quận/ huyện. Các yếu tố liên quan ảnh hưởng “tiêu cực” đến NCHTBSM trong thời gian nằm viện sau sinh bao gồm tăng tuổi thai lúc sinh, tăng số lần khám thai, có uống sữa dành cho bà bầu trong thời gian mang thai, sinh mổ, có vấn đề khó khăn khi cho con bú, có kiến thức đúng về NCHTBSM.
